Urban farm on City campus is a first

Urban farm on City campus is a first

City Times, San Diego City College, CA

Imagine a beautiful, lush "food forest" of fruit trees and vegetables, a little paradise on the edge of campus; broccoli, snow peas, beans, squash, cabbage, potatoes, herbs, and fruiting vines of passion fruit, grapes, and berries growing happily on rich brown soil; a thriving farm growing food and selling food; and an educational and community resource for people learning to grow their own food and live healthier lives. Such is the vision of Julia Dashe and Paul Maschka, urban farmers with the San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project, and Karon Klipple, Chair of City College's Environmental Stewardship Committee, for Seeds at City, an urban farm located on campus at the corner of Park and C.

This summer's box office was a success. Perhaps the poor economy combined with over inflated gas prices had everyone searching for a retreat not too far from home, or maybe this summer's movies were just that good. Whatever the reason, summer box office revenues have exceeded last year's, making history with record highs, according to Variety.

ALLAN ACEVEDO: Schwarzenegger uses workers' pay to offset his own incompetence

The Daily Aztec, San Diego State, CA

On Saturday, Aug. 16, I woke up early to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles to file a change of address form, because the DMV is usually open the third Saturday of every month. To my surprise, however, the DMV was closed, but it was not deserted. There was a group of protesters outside: the Service Employees International Union 1000. This is because Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has decided that, when it comes to state employees at least, laws about silly little things such as unemployment and wages don't really matter that much.

San Diego State professors are reaching out overseas to help rebuild the curricula of a university in Afghanistan.

The professors are working with Interwork Institute, which is a program funded by the SDSU Research Foundation. Currently, the program helps faculty at Nangarhar University in Afghanistan to develop a four-year English language program and reform the outdated engineering program.

The Ministry of Higher Education in Afghanistan is funding the project through a $4 million grant issued to them by the World Bank.

Imagine strolling out to your mailbox one bright, sunny morning. You take out your usual mail - the coupons, the bills - and then you notice an interesting letter. As soon as you open the letter, you notice faint traces of a white powder blowing into the air. Days later, you're dead.
