Magnetic Fields' go shoegazing with much success
Stephin Merritt decided to throw his amps through a blender and then patch them back up with barbed wire and a love for shoegazing for the Magnetic Fields' eighth album "Distortion." Do not panic though, not even the most malignant of studio technician tricks have been able to derail the sugar-coated melodies that are so closely knit to the Magnetic Fields.

Doug Liman, where have you gone? After directing surprising hit films like "Swingers" and "Go," jump-starting the Bourne franchise with "The Bourne Identity," he disappointed with "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." People were expecting a big bounce back from Liman. Instead, he gives us "Jumper," a superhero film that leaves us questioning more about the film than we should.

Vampire Weekend's release strong debut

All of the correct components are present on Vampire Weekend's self-titled debut. Jangly guitars, quasi-intellectual lyrics and "smart" influences such as Paul Simon, Orange Juice, African pop, and just the right amount of the Talking Heads. This is the revenge of the nerds, but done right, and without becoming stale in its propriety.

For many of us, it can be difficult to see life after Mesa College. Student tunnel vision sometimes obscuring much besides Scantron sheets and expensive required texts, making degrees seem vaguely reminiscent of fabled creatures like Loch Ness or Bigfoot. Piecing together any kind of transfer agreement through careful planning in the overwhelming number of pages in the course catalog can easily feel like a harrowing undertaking.

Nestled between two busy streets in Pacific Beach, Marinos Italian Restaurant has been serving its authentic Italian food for 54 years. Owners Luigi and Sue Murino bought the restaurant from the original owners and kept the same menus and recipes. They have delicious, saucy, cheesy Italian food.

The Mesa College Theater Company is presenting the emotionally charged "A Question of Mercy" on March 7- 16. It will show at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 7 p.m. on Sunday. With strong focus on two characters played Ronald W. Johnson Jr. and Jeff Harlow, this play by David Rabe promises to deliver an intense drama writ with conflicts of right versus wrong.
