Students from the Temple Tech College Baptist Group from Louisiana Tech University were at Mesa College on Feb. 28 to probe the minds of Mesa students. The group, working for two local churches - the Calvary Baptist Church and Ethnos Church - anchored 10 large white poster boards outside the school cafeteria.

In honor of Women's History Month, "The Vagina Monologues" is being presented at Mesa College. "The point is to create this whole paradigm of personality," said Summer Dunsmore, the producer of the play. "Women should be able to express themselves however they want; that is important to me.

Leadership summit at Mesa encourages African American and Latino male students to attend college

Last Friday, approximately 400 male African American and Latino middle school and high school students filled the gym at Mesa College. Young men selected from 15 schools based on their positive behavior gathered to hear well-known keynote speakers and special performances encouraging them to go to college.

Gas prices affect students' driving habits

As gas prices continue to rise, less and less Mesa students are actually driving, even if they have a car of their own. Instead they are choosing to ride their bicycles, carpool with friends or use public transportation. "I have a car and a mountain bike, but I prefer to ride my bicycle when I can," says student Daniel Winkler.

Work Experience Program wins respected award

Mesa College was recently chosen as "Outstanding Two-Year College Internship/ Work Experience Program" for 2008 by a respected organization, the California Internship and Work Experience Association. The CIWEA will officially present the award to Program Coordinator Lydia Signorelli-Brown in April.

Mesa student dies at Sigma Pi house

Kurt Baker, a Mesa student, died on Feb. 24 at the San Diego State Sigma Pi fraternity house on College Drive. The cause of Baker's death is still under investigation. Baker was found the morning of Feb. 24, by the president of the fraternity's chapter, Eitan Zimmerman, and a fellow member, Brett Bannon, unconscious in his bed with blood and "black liquid" coming out of his face, according to the Daily Aztec.
